Verny
Legal Experience
Dr. Verny attended the University of Connecticut School of Law, the Institute
on International and Comparative Law at King's College in England and the
Santa Clara University School of Law. She received her Juris Doctor from
the University of Connecticut in 1980.
Dr. Verny has over twenty years of comprehensive
U.S. and foreign patent and trademark practice, general corporate
law practice, and an extensive scientific medically-oriented
background. She is a founding partner of Peters, Verny, Jones
& Biksa, LLP. She joined the Phillips, Moore, Lempio &
Finley firm, from which the current firm evolved, as a partner,
in 1989. She acted as Patent and Trademark Counsel with Liposome
Technology, Inc. from 1987 until 1989, as a Patent and Trademark
Counsel with Zoecon Corporation from 1984 until 1986, and
as a Patent Attorney with Syntex, U.S.A. from 1981 until 1984.
She currently acts as a counsel to new ventures in the Czech
Republic.
Both nationally and internationally, Dr. Verny
provides counsel to universities and corporate management,
inventors and clients on all aspects of intellectual property
law matters, including U.S. and foreign patent, trademark
and copyright filing, prosecution and administration. She
negotiates, drafts and reviews various types of agreements
related to intellectual property matters, and prepares patentability,
novelty and infringement opinions. She files and prosecutes
U.S. and foreign biotechnology, medical, diagnostic, chemical,
and simple mechanical patent applications, U.S. and foreign
trademark applications and copyright registrations.
Technical Experience
Dr. Verny obtained her Ph.D. in Medical Biology/Biochemistry,
from Charles University, in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1966.
She was a Senior Research Neurobiologist with SRI International
(1979 - 1981) where she directed the neuroscience research
program funded by NIMH. She taught graduate courses in medicine,
biochemistry, pharmacology, behavioral sciences and cellular
neurobiology, and supervised research of M.A. and Ph.D. students
at the University of Connecticut from 1972 to 1979.
She acted as the Head of the Laboratory of Neurochemistry, at Draco Research
Laboratories in Sweden (1970 - 1972), where she directed a research project
for the development of new psychopharmacological drugs. She was also a Research
Associate with King Gustaf V Research Institute in Sweden, where she directed
a research project for artificial blood substitutes, and a Research Associate
at Charles University, Prague in Czechoslovakia (1966 - 1968), where she
conducted biochemical research for the World Health Organization physical
fitness program. Dr. Verny is author or co-author of 37 scientific publications.
Professional Affiliations
Dr. Verny is a member of the State Bar of California and is
registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office. She is a member of the San Francisco Intellectual
Property Law Association and Silicon Valley Intellectual Property
Law Association. She was a Fellow at the Max-Planck Society,
Max Planck Institute for Brain Research, Germany, and is a
Life Member of the Italian Group for Mass Spectrometry in
Biochemistry and Medicine for outstanding contributions in
promoting advancement in the field of biochemistry and medicine. |
